Monday Monday 4.22.2008

I traveled to Clarkson this past weekend to learn that many people actually noticed the absence of my weekly note. When I returned to work on Tuesday, I found messages from family wondering where my "Monday Monday" went. Well. . .I'M BACK and I'M BETTER. Every once in a while, I have to step back and regain some perspective before pushing the pen any further.

Much of my time since WrestleMania included reading about and evaluating career goals and business practices. I snuggled up with the Harvard Business Review for some night time reading, I jumped through flaming hoops trying to apply some of the learned skills and tactics, and for all my troubles I experienced some moderate success. IBM is not the career I hope to retire from, so with that in mind, it is absolutely critical for me to start learning how to make plays. When the time is right, I want the ability to make a clutch play that can slingshot my career into something different and successful. The chosen career might be real estate, writing, or any other vast array of opportunities.

On another note, I am completely enthralled by this upcoming election. Even now, CNN's election coverage of the Pennsylvania primary imposes on my writing time.

In the world of Sports, Major League Baseball kicked off a few weeks back giving Maggie and me the chance to map out a spring plan for our baseball stadium tour. We have solid trips planned for the Washington Nationals, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers. We have yet to formalize dates for the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Florida Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays. Granted there is absolutely no way that we'll hit all these stadiums, but if we can hit about half to three quarters of them– we will be very pleased.

I enjoyed my visit back to Clarkson last weekend. I rekindled friendships with old friends and acquainted myself with a number of new friends. I'm always excited to see and hear what everyone is up to, so going someplace like Clarkson at the end of a school year offers a lot of opportunity for hearing a lot of different things. I have friends going to San Francisco, Harrisburg, Richmond, Baltimore, and the list only goes on. The Clarkson Army of alumni is beginning to fill out and take shape all around the country.

Because Maggie and I have spent so much time away from home over the past several months, I don't really have a lot to update on. We purchased some new furniture and frames for the SC House, while my parents visited the PA House for a nice weekend. We'll also add cable and a roommate in the coming months, so our house in SC will take on a whole new feel and appeal.

I promise to write more next week, but for now this has been a Monday Monday delivered on Tuesday.

Ryan
